The Coastguard Centre at Falmouth tasked the RNLI Dart inshore lifeboat to investigate the report of a red flare sighted in the Dittisham Bight on the River Dart. No vessel was found to be in distress but there was a report of fireworks having been set off from the vicinity of the boathouse at Stoke Gabriel and a fire could be seen burning there from across the river. The crew found no one ashore but a pile of spent fireworks had been placed in a bag alongside the wooden boathouse and had started a fire. The lifeboat crew were able to extinguish the fire using water directed from a nearby tap.
