Large net reported floating in seaway

Launch No: 162
Craft: Spirit of the Dart. D-702
Thursday, 29 November 2012
Location: Just South of the Mewstone. Dart Estuary

A passing yacht called the Coastguard and reported a large net floating in the vicinity of the Mewstone. As it would be a hazard to other passing craft the inshore lifeboat was asked to investigate. The lifeboat was launched after the crew was assembled. A sector search was carried out using the last reported position of the sighting and also along the tideline. Despite communications with the yacht at the scene and the National Coastwatch station at Froward Point overlooking the area, a net was not found and the crew returned to station.
